Smallcat Launch Makes Netherlands Forerunner in Laser Satellite Communication

On April 11 at 8:48 a.m. Dutch time aboard the Norwegian satellite NorSat-TD,  SmallCAT (Small Communication Active Terminal) will be launched into space SpaceX's Falcon 9. SmallCAT will be able to send data from space to earth via laser light. Some advantages of using laser instead of radio is that it can contain more data and can be better encrypted. The Netherlands foresees a great future for laser satellite communication and is investing heavily in this new technology.
